Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga (30 to 45 min)
Carla's note
Half an hour of Yin Yoga. A brief warm-up, with shoulder mobility, Balasana, Adho Mukha Svanasana and a pass through plank, comes before the poses, which are held for several minutes in silence. The work focuses on the hips, the hamstrings and, in a low lunge, the hip flexors, with the muscles relaxed so that the load acts on the connective tissue. It closes with a twist on the floor and is recommended at the end of the day or after an intense practice.Carla Gonçalves
The practice, step by step
- 1Brief warm-up: shoulders, child's pose, downward dog and a pass through plank
- 2Yin poses held for several minutes: hips, hamstrings and low lunge
- 3Twist on the floor and a seated closing, eyes closed
If it is your first time
In Yin nothing is forced: you go into each pose until you feel the stretch, not pain, and you stay. If the knees or hips ask for it, place a blanket or bolster underneath. The silence is part of the practice.
If you already practise
Use the silence to count long breaths and observe where the body resists; in each pose, after a minute, release a little more.
What you need
- mat
- blanket or bolster
About Yin Yoga
In Yin, the poses are held for several minutes, on the floor and without effort, to reach the deeper tissues: fascia, ligaments, joints. It asks for patience and gives back space.
